Water covers about 70 per cent of our planet and yet it is not safe to say that it is, and will remain, in plentiful. Today, Water Scarcity has become an issue of global concern with almost 3 million of our population not being granted access to safe water. The ones who ARE lucky enough to access clean water every day, take it for granted and either over use it or pollute it.
To prevent this, there are some measures we can all take on a daily basis to conserve water. Here we have listed out some easy tips for the same.

1: REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF WATER USED FOR BATHES AND WASHES:
Despite how calming they are, long showers consume a lot of water that can otherwise be conserved for a different purpose. The average human can use up to 17 litres of water through a single shower. Thus the first tip to save water is to keep your showers as short as possible.

2: NEVER LEAVE TAPS RUNNING:
Make sure that you do not leave the water running in between brushing your teeth, washing dishes, shaving etc. Every second that you aren’t using the water, close your taps. While it may seem an in- significant amount, quite a lot of water is in fact wasted by simply leaving a tap running for a minute too long.

3: ALWAYS CHECK FOR LEAKS:
Make sure that you always check your taps, faucets, toilets, shower heads etc. for leaks and ensure that you fix these at the earliest. This will prevent almost 60 litres of water going right down the drain, every week.

4: TIME YOUR GARDENING:
Try to keep set time limits for watering your plants and not do it more than once a day, unless weather is extremely dry. Big lawns only need to be watered once a week for it to stay fresh. Avoid purchasing sprinklers that constantly remain switched on to water your lawns, for this will waste a lot of water.

5: USE RAIN WATER:
Rain water harvesting even in its smallest forms can save a lot of water. Installing water butts in your home can save almost five thousand litres of water in a year. Furthermore, plants thrive much better under rain water than tap water.

6: LOAD UP YOUR WASHING MACHINES AND DISH WASHERS:

Washing a full load of clothes requires much lesser water than two half loads. Thus, make sure that you pile up your laundry and wash it all together, rather than in two batches.
Ensure that you fill up your dish washer when washing utensils rather than washing up by hand or using the dish washer in batches. This will save a lot of water.

7: STEAM, DON’T BOIL:
Make sure to only boil just as much water you need and not more. Further, try to steam your vegetables instead of boiling them. If you MUST boil them, try to use the remaining water as stock that could go into a healthy vegetable soup rather than tossing it down the drain. This reduces unnecessary wastage of water.
